routes to the hall

On the day of the engagement event, we asked people to draw on a map their route to the hall that day. Using different colours to denote the method of transport used to arrive at the hall, we ended up with a small but interesting idea of how arriving at the hall using different means of transport can vary.

A closer look at the numbers shows that the majority of the people who came to the event did so on foot because they lived close to the hall.

The lack of safe and convenient alternatives to the subways that are in the process of being filled in by the council is quite apparent when looking at the route that the pedestrians took to the event. With many of the lines drawn weaving around the intersection, it shows the issues that people east of the A56 and south of the A5145 have in reaching the hall.

This is also evident when looking at how cyclists arrived at the hall, on the day. A couple of the cyclists arriving from the north of Stretford and Salford actually performed illegal turns across the northbound A56 lane, in order to be able to make the turn to the Hall.

It also became evident that there is no provision for safe cyclist parking outside the hall, which is why all the lines lead to the main entrance of the hall.

Despite being a great asset in linking Stretford with the rest of the surrounding area, and Greater Manchester as a whole, the two main roads splitting Stretford centre into quarters are actually making it more difficult to access the hall and the other sitting on the thresholds between the road and the community.
