Our public engagement event, which took place on the 14th October, was our first discussion with the locals. Through this event, we introduced our practice and began to collect data about our public realm and the transport links in and around Stretford.

At our stand/booth/table, we had three activities for people to take part in. Each was focused on finding out about the locals sense of place (the My Stretford post cards), their route to the event (mapping exercise) and their vision for Stretford (the modelling exercise).

In reflection, despite gathering a pool of data, it seems as though it hasn’t been easy to find information that we could use or investigate further. This is due to the open-ended nature of the activities that we chose. However, we had many conversations during the course of the day that have made an impact on our approach to the project as a whole.

We asked the local community to envision a better Stretford. Through the use of two dimensional representations of bridges, green spaces and infrastructure.

Our participants elaborated a postcard sharing their opinions about  the local area. Some of them took photographs of the surroundings. Others preferred to draw them. And many opted for masterplan their ideas.

We asked to draw our guests' journeys from home to Stretford Public Hall. They mapped their journey according to the colour coding shown below.
